Major and sincere information, any person that buys a diamond would want to have is if the diamond he buys will get cloudy over a period of time or not. When you visit a jeweler in a diamond store, you might be told that a lab diamond may undergo a color change over a period of time, but this seldom happens anyways. This assertion of diamond changing in color is typically not true for a lab-grown diamond because every lab-grown diamond has the same physical properties just as a mined diamond.
It neither changes in physical nor visual appearance. A simple test that can be properly carried out is to place a piece of a lab-created diamond into a sample bottle containing concentrated hydrochloric acid. What would be observed is simply a good and thorough cleaning. Nothing more!
If at all, a diamond undergoes any damages, a lab-created diamond will only get damaged the only way a mined diamond would. Some jewelers will promote some information that is not true about lab-created diamonds because cheaply produced cubic zirconia gets cloudy once it oxidizes. But it is imperative to know that cubic zirconia is not a diamond but a diamond simulants.
Color change observation
The report has it that small amounts of diamonds that have been produced in the lab via the “Chemical Vapor Deposition” process of precise poor quality observably change color for a temporary time when exposed to ultra-violet light. This means that they likely were grown with vacuums in their crystal structure with M or L color pattern.
After some diamonds are made in labs, some are exposed to high radiation. This act makes such diamond develop some color change when used for a significant period of time. Lab-created diamonds are carefully subjected to long and short-wave Ultra Violet light to ascertain its phosphorescence, stability, and fluorescence.
Finally, in order for diamonds to always appear sparkling and polished, adequate care needs to be put in place. Diamond gems at times appear as cloudy when its exposure to sunlight becomes prolonged. The amazing thing is the sparkling and polished nature remains the same when not exposed. Diamond is rated at 10 when placed on a Mohs scale, which falls in the same reading category of rocks. The indelible hard nature of diamonds will make it maintain its characteristics from the point when it is bought till forever.
