Synthetic diamonds versus natural diamonds

Anyone looking for diamonds, whether for diamond or jewelry, such as a diamond necklace, tennis bracelet or other diamond earrings for his lover or for any other purpose, will reach the search process knowing that diamond is a status symbol for all intents and purposes, and of course, even for elements like luxury and elegance that characterize the diamond – but in most cases, without prior knowledge or understanding of the differences between the different diamond types.

2 types of diamonds: Synthetic diamonds and natural diamonds

So, the first thing that is important to know in diamond search is that there are 2 types: synthetic and natural diamonds. As mentioned, the differences between the two types are many, but even before going into the beam about the same differences, as well as the advantages of each type, it is important to note that the main difference is reflected to the price – the price of a synthetic diamonds is lower. Now, because many of the buyers are young men who want to surprise their lovers and young women who want to pamper themselves, so in most cases, the diamond price will have a big impact on the decision – nonetheless, most young people cannot afford to pay prices that are too high.

Natural diamonds

Most of the natural diamonds originate from the Earth’s mantle. Natural diamonds are created in a slow process based on high temperatures and high-pressure conditions – a diamond growth process can take up to a billion years and even up to 3 billion years. The almost single component of diamonds (constituting 99.95% of their components) is the carbon element – the fact that natural diamonds consist of only one component, which is responsible for the diamond’s strength (the diamond’s strength rating is 10) and other characteristics that characterize it. Because diamonds are considered to be a very rare resource – even if due to the process and manner of their formation, they are also very expensive and anyone interested in purchasing natural diamonds should know the various factors that affect their price.

In general, the factors that affect the price of natural diamonds are: weight, color, diamond cleanliness and diamond cutting and polishing (the four C: carat, color, clarity, cut) – those who do not enter the thickness of the beam when choosing a natural diamond, will focus mainly on the weight of the diamond (carat), which is one of the most influential factors in its cost. It goes without saying that whoever has been looking for natural diamonds and comes to the search process without having any prior knowledge or understanding in the field, it is important to be sure to get advice from a professional and reliable diamond who will be able to help him choose a quality diamond that will meet the budget he is aiming for – on the purchase process it is recommended to ask and receive  Gemological certificate signed.

The benefits of natural diamonds

As mentioned, a diamond is a status symbol – beyond the prestige and impressive character that characterize it. One can say that the most significant advantage of a natural diamond on the  synthetic one lies in the fact that it is a natural diamond and the fact that it is a precious and prestigious element – for example, if a young man seeks a diamond for the engagement ring he plans to give his lover while he marries her, the fact that it is a natural diamond can, to some, show its investment and willingness to give the best to his lover- and here it is important to note that no one, not even a diamond, can distinguish between natural diamond and synthetic without the use of advanced and dedicated means

However, when buying a natural diamond (with the goal, of course, being the best and knowing what you are getting in return for the amount of money you paid), the question is what is the quality of that natural diamond (as mentioned, there are quite a few factors that affect the quality) The diamond has been improved or not – and if it has been improved, what is its quality …

Synthetic Diamonds

Synthetic diamonds, as can be deduced from their names, are diamonds created in the laboratory (as part of this, many also call them “laboratory diamonds“). The thought of trying to recreate the glittering wonder of natural diamonds has passed through the minds for many years, but only in 1954, were they able to put this thought into practice and produce an artificial diamond – it should be noted that the synthetic diamonds at the beginning were characterized by lower quality, but the fact they had a growing demand that spurred the researchers to continue to work to improve the result until they got the high quality and impressive results we know today.

The production of synthetic diamonds uses a dedicated piston extruder, which contains coal powder or fine graphite, which actually creates the high pressure and temperature that form part of the diamond making process. Synthetic diamonds have been with us as mentioned, for many years when their uses are many and varied and especially in industries like optics, polishing and more… In the beginning, most of the companies producing synthetic diamonds originated in China. However, in recent years many huge  companies from all over the world have realized the great potential of synthetic diamonds for jewelry inlay, of course, that advanced technology has also been harnessed for the purpose and therefore, the end and high quality result of synthetic diamond inlay does not fall, in many cases, the appearance of diamonds natural – When someone who comes into the purchase process without having any prior knowledge will not notice any differences.

The benefits of synthetic diamonds

As mentioned, thanks to innovative technology, the synthetic diamonds we can find today are of exceptionally high quality, alongside the fact that their production process is fast (synthetic diamonds can be produced in less than 3 months) – and here, of course, comes the main advantage of synthetic diamonds and cost ratio benefit. The price of synthetic diamonds is significantly lower than the price of natural diamonds, and, also, in many cases their quality is high – according to data prices of synthetic diamonds are lower than the cost of natural diamonds in gaps of between thirty percent and fifty percent. Other benefits that characterize synthetic diamonds lie in the fact that their production process does not harm the environment and therefore is considered a green product – in an era when awareness of the environment is particularly high, this is a significant advantage.

Of course, there is a high importance that synthetic diamonds be sold with full transparency to consumers – consumers should think they are buying synthetic diamonds and not find out in retrospect that they have bought synthetic diamonds, even though they have been promised that they are natural diamonds – fare trade can only continue to increase the popularity of synthetic diamonds and can allow young men, who do not yet have big savings or unlimited economic options, to offer a marriage to their lovers with an engagement ring studded with impressive diamonds.

So, what kind of diamonds to choose?

Of course, when it comes to decition whether to purchase natural or synthetic diamonds, everyone has their own considerations – as well as the budget they set for the goal. It is important to remember, however, that natural diamond making is a lengthy process and therefore constitutes a limited resource, so most projections indicate that the popularity of synthetic diamonds is only going to increase  in the next years and there is also something optimistic in this process as well, due to their lower and more accessible price, the desire to “buy you a diamond” will no longer be just a dream.
